Social media is a hot topic among real estate agent. The question is always the same: How do I use social media to grow my real estate business?

Some Realtors think, once they learned whatever this thing is called social media, their business is going to grow. That’s silly not true.

There are two schools of thought when it comes real estate coaches.

There are what I would consider more old school coaches where they’re the ones that are teaching the cold calling. And that was completely acceptable back in 1985. That’s just the way it was.

There now seems to be a different type of real estate coach. The one who is teaching “Social Media” to grow your real estate business, and here’s a lot of confusion happening around social media. I’m realizing that agents are fearing social media – Facebook, Instagram, snapchat, Twitter, Linkedin.

Social media doesn’t make you a better real estate agent. Social media is nothing more than the tool that helps you spread your message to your local market.

Let’s say you wanted to build a house 100 years ago. Social media would be the tool. It would be the hammer. You use the tools that were available to you back then to build that house. So it took you much longer to build that house because you couldn’t cut the steel or the wood the way you can today. But the end result is still the house. Today in 2019 the end result is still the house.

We’ve got tools that exist today to help you build that house much quicker, easier than we did back a hundred years ago. So the end result of you building your real estate business is still the same. All you’re doing is using a different tool to spread your message. Do you know what social media was back in 1985? The newspaper.

Social media is a platform. That’s all it really is. And that’s why there is a divide where you get these old school coaches from 1985 teaching you prospecting the old school way because they don’t even know how it all works.

It’s easier for them to teach old-school, out of date, prospecting techniques.

They haven’t wrapped their head around social media because they think social media is something that actually isn’t. It’s a tool. If you learn social media, you can spread your content to your local market much better. You can build your know, like and trust, trust factor much quicker than dealing for dollars. Period!

Social media is nothing more than then the bridge between you and your prospect. You’re just using the new bridge to get the same message across.

So the way real estate is done has changed. You have to think like a marketer. You have to create content, but the end result is still the same. You help buyers and sellers buy or sell homes. The end result is the same. That hasn’t changed.

The way we run our business has changed. The way we market, the way we attract has changed. So you’ve got two choices. You can stick with 1985 literally, and if that’s you, cool, whatever, you do. Or you can change the way you approach your real estate business. Social media is not what you have to learn. You have to learn how to create good content so you capture people’s attention so you could be the agent of choice. Now we watch movies on Netflix, now we use Uber to get a ride and now you have to become content creators to help buyers and sellers, and social media is the new bridge. That’s all.

Realtors that embrace social media and learn the content to put on social media and to think like a marketer – they’re the ones that are going to win. Plain and simple. There is no other way of me spelling it out to you.

It’s not the social media that you should fear. It’s just a new tool because the end result is still the same.
